1.) Super Mario 64 (1996)
Why: Mario is one of the best-known titles, but anyone can tell if this could be the best game in the franchise. This game is unlike its predecessors as it is the first 3D platform game in the series. It’s a bigger world than ever and the extra moves and jumps that Mario can make make the game faster and more enjoyable. There are a total of 120 stars and the game has a lot of replay value. The Mario platformer is still being made today and nothing comes close to this game.
2.) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998)
Why: Everyone has their favorite Zelda game, but Ocarina of Time includes the best features of the glorified series. There’s a great world you can freely explore, great scores, and a great original story. Dungeons aren’t particularly challenging, but complex enough not to get too angry when you can’t solve the puzzles.
3.) Hello 3 (2007)
Why: The Halo series is one of a kind. It unites your friends to blow each other up in epic space battles. Halo 3 is probably the best of the series in terms of glorified multipliers, with a dramatic storyline without a shortage of operatic musical cues and strong character customization. Many titles still try and emulate what Halo does and there’s nothing like it.
4.) Minecraft (2011)
Why: Minecraft is one of the best-selling video games of all time, so you’ll have to live under a rock as a gamer to never find it. You have to create your own world and do whatever you want. If you think about it, you can make it. The great thing about Minecraft is that it is available on almost all platforms, including smartphones. This game is great to let your mind go and become an artist.
5.) Pokemon X and Y (2013)
Why: Whether you’re a child or an adult, with this franchise it’s never been a problem. Pokémon revolutionizes what it means to bring a character like Pikachu to life. He modernized handheld multiplayer gaming and made it look what it is today. X and Y is one of the newer titles, which is great because the game doesn’t stop using older, more mature characters.
